Good to Know:
- Language: the main language spoken in Italy is Italian. Around 50% of the population speak in a regional dialect. In the major cities, most people are able to speak some level of English, however you’ll find that this stops being the case in more rural areas.
- Currency: the local currency is Euros (EUR)
- Plugs: In Italy the power plugs and sockets are of type F and L. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. I always recommend purchasing a universal adapter for your travels, so you’re never caught out!
- Safety: Italy is, generally speaking, a very safe country. The big cities have the highest crime rate but even then, it’s nothing too out of the ordinary for similar sized cities worldwide! The biggest thing to watch out for as a tourist is theft. Be careful of pickpockets and make sure you’re aware of your belongings at all times.
