Chipping Campden is a small market town in the Cotswolds known for its honey-coloured buildings and beautiful rural surroundings. Like any good spot in the Cotswolds, you’ll find plenty of fantastic pubs in Chipping Campden – from forward-thinking gastropubs to unfussy traditional ones.
Having grown up in the nearby Stratford Upon Avon, I’ve been lucky enough to spend lots of time in the North Cotswolds with one of my most frequented spots being Chipping Campden. As a result, I’ve sampled a number of the pubs in the area. Read on to find out my favourites!
Best Pubs in Chipping Campden
Eight Bells Inn
The Eight Bells Inn is a traditional countryside pub in Chipping Campden.
The food here is fabulous, making it a good spot if you’re feeling hungry after a long walk in the countryside. Expect pub classics like fish and chips, chicken and mushroom pie, and sticky toffee pudding.
And, of course, if you visit on a Sunday, you’ll get a chance to try their fantastic Sunday roast. Here you can choose from British beef, local pork, or (if you’re vegetarian) a nut roast.
They also have a small beer garden for you to enjoy a pint in, should the good weather hit.

The Bakers Arms
This cosy pub in Chipping Campden is very popular amongst locals (so you know it’s good!). It’s a ‘proper’ pub – the old-fashioned kind that’s not too worried about fancy food or interior design. Just an unpretentious, snug atmosphere that’s perfect for a Cotswold escape.
In the winter months, you can avoid the cold weather with warm food and a crackling fire. And by the time the sunshine hits, you can head out to their spacious beer garden to make the most of the rays.
Here you can expect pub classics, like ham, egg and chips, ploughman’s sandwiches, and an assortment of pies.

The Red Lion Tavern
The Red Lion Tavern is anther unpretentious pub with great food. They pride themselves on keeping ingredients as local as possible with meat sourced from free range Cotswold livestock and direct from the farmer where they can.
This 16th century pub has all the hallmarks of a cosy cotswold bolthole with its exposed beams and open fire. There is also some outdoor seating, however it’s more of a courtyard than a garden, so I prefer heading here in cooler weather.
The Red Lion is right in the centre of town so very easy to find if you’ve spent the day exploring.

The Volunteer Inn
This 18th century inn is located in the centre of Chipping Campden. It’s a unique spot as it combines the charm of an old English pub with the flavours of an Indian restaurant.
If you’re in the mood for some pan Asian cuisine, The Maharaja restaurant within The Volunteer Inn has got you covered.
But if what you’re really after is a lovely pint in a traditional pub, you can also find it here. There’s roaring log fire in the winter to keep the place cosy and a courtyard for drinks in the summer. They also show live football, rugby, and cricket, making it a popular place to watch the game with friends.

Best Pubs Near Chipping Campden
Not only are there plenty of lovely pubs in Chipping Campden, there are also some in the neighbouring villages – less than 10 minutes drive away. Here are some of my very favourite pubs near Chipping Campden:
Lygon Arms
The infamous Lygon Arms is a must-visit. You’ll find this historic grade II hotel in the heart of Broadway, just 10 minutes away from Chipping Campden.
If you do decide to pay a visit, you’ll be in good company. King Edward visited the hotel between 1905 and 1910. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton also stayed there during the height of their affair. Other famous guests include Kylie Minogue, Evelyn Waugh, and Prince Philip.
If you’re looking for a cosy atmosphere, head to The Tavern, or if you’re after something a little more refined, check out their Grill. Both options are headed up by acclaimed chef James Martin.
The Ebrington Arms
Okay, you caught me – this pub isn’t technically in Chipping Campden. It’s in the nearby village of Ebrington and will only take about 7 minutes to get to by car. Trust me when I say it’s worth the short drive!
Not only is The Ebrington Arms one of the best pubs in Chipping Campden, it’s also one of the best pubs in the Cotswolds*
If you’re dreaming of a quintessential English countryside pub, this is the place for you! Picture a wood-burning fire, beamed ceilings, and beautiful surroundings, and you’ve got the Ebrington Arms
There’s also a lovely beer garden, which is the perfect spot for some refreshments in the sunshine. And they have a number of wonderful rooms (in case you’re looking for a peaceful getaway!).
*Note: I have recently found out that this pub is under new management so cannot attest to whether this continues to be the case but will make a reservation soon to report back!
