It’s that time of year again. Crisp new pages in the diary, gyms crammed with people, and goals galore. The new year is the best time to dust off that bucket list & start making some big plans. So if your New Year’s resolution is to ‘travel more’ or ‘go on an adventure’, I’ve got you covered. Here are 20 of the most beautiful places to discover and explore in 2020. Here’s to a year jam-packed with sunsets, nature, experiences & adventure.

1. Portugal
Portugal kind of has it all – beautiful coastlines, gorgeous cities, and the not-to-be-missed pastel de nata. Learn to surf in the Algarve, see the tiles of Porto, or explore the National Palace of Sintra. There really is something for everyone.
2. Arizona
If you’re looking to get out and experience some serious natural beauty, then Arizona is the place for you. Expect panoramic landscapes that are completely awe-inspiring and beautiful national parks that are perfect for hiking.
3. Japan
The ‘it’ place of the moment, and for good reason, Japan is the perfect mix of ancient culture and modernity. Pet the deer in Nara, eat all the ramen in Tokyo, or visit the famous orange gates of Kyoto. Also – sushi. Need I say more?
4. Peru
It’s time to finally tick Machu Picchu off your bucket list. Visit this amazing wonder of the world and make friends with the amazing locals in Peru. Looking to take a surf course in 2020? Peru is one of the best places to do it!
5. Ireland
Take a road trip through Ireland in the summer and absorb the beautiful scenery, medieval castles & vibrant cities. The landscapes are truly breathtaking.
6. Sri Lanka
Beautiful beaches, delicious food, and an abundance of incredible wildlife – Sri Lanka is the perfect getaway. Sri Lanka is quickly becoming a popular tourist destination due to the incredible variety it offers. Get there before it becomes too packed!
7. Slovenia
Slovenia is yet another country filled with natural beauty – perfect for a hiking trip! It’s also a great place for adrenaline junkies to get their hit. Here you can find a zipline with the steepest descent in the world! If you prefer something a little more relaxing, enjoy the charming city of Ljubljana or visit Lake Bled.
8. Iceland
Want to explore glaciers, thermal pools, volcanos and black sand beaches? Iceland is the perfect place to get out into nature. Hire a campervan and road trip this insanely beautiful country in 2020.
9. New Zealand
Another place that was just made for road tripping? New Zealand! Visit Hobbiton, go bungee jumping, walk on a glacier, taste amazing wine, take in the gorgeous views – New Zealand will scratch any travel itch!
10. Canada
Canada has so much natural beauty to explored. Get up close and personal with Niagara falls, catch sight of bears & whales, hang out at the gorgeous Lake Louise or explore one the countries exciting cities. Canada is a dream.
11. Kenya
Want to catch a glimpse of some of the most magnificent creatures in the world? Then you’ve got to get yourself to Kenya. This is where modern safaris were invented so it’s the perfect place to see the big 5.
12. Vietnam
Vietnam is a massively popular backpacker destination and for good reason. The cities are bustling, the food is amazing, the people are friendly, and there are plenty of beautiful natural spots to discover. It’s also a very affordable place to visit by Western standards, so perfect if your 2020 goal is to travel on a budget.
13. Mexico
Visit the ruins of Chichen Itza, walk a suspension bridge over the Copper Canyon, relax on gorgeous white sand beaches, or visit one of the country’s 10 UNESCO World Heritage Cities. Need I even mention the food? I’m salivating at the thought.
14. Finland
Stay in a glass igloo in Finland and get unbelievable views of the Northern lights right from your bed! Finland is the perfect winter getaway – don’t forget to meet Santa Claus!
15. Morocco
For something really different in 2020, try Morocco – where you can ride a camel through the Sahara Desert, stay in a beautiful riad, pick up some traditional Moroccan pottery, or visit the blue city of Chefchaouen.
16. Slovakia
Slovakia seriously doesn’t get the love it deserves. Go hiking through the stunning High Tatras or visit one of the many medieval castles the country has to offer. Slovakia is one of the more affordable European countries, so perfect if you’re travelling on a budget!
17. Italy
Italy is another country that balances beautiful cities with stunning beaches. Backpack across Italy and see Rome, Venice & Milan, or take a relaxing beach holiday in Sardinia or Positano.
18. Russia
Anyone else wanted to visit St. Petersburg ever since they watched Anastasia as a child? Just me? Visit Russia to see stunning architecture and learn about the country’s fascinating history. And if you’re feeling brave, don’t forget to get a taste of the vodka while you’re there.
19. Australia
Australia – the home of kangaroos, avo on toast, and amazing weather. What’s not to love? Visit the ever-sunny Perth & see quokkas on Rottnest Island. Explore the vast Australian outback and stargaze in one of the best dark sky sites in the world. Or grab a camper van and road trip the East Coast through cities such as Melbourne, Sydney & Cairns.
20. India
It’s time to finally tick the Taj Mahal off your bucket list – and while you’re at it, why not visit the rest of the Golden Triangle? Or the rest of India for that matter? See Tigers, explore Delhi, learn yoga, or eat your body weight in amazing food.
